Mountainview Elementary LEGO League Assembles
Mountainview Elementary LEGO League Robotics Club has built two teams and they are ready to compete! Made up of six fifth-grade and two fourth-grade students selected by Elementary Counselor and Club Administrator, Stacey De Wet, our engineering-minded students are ready to put their designs to the test.
“I chose students based on their answer to the question, ‘Why would you be a good fit for the LEGO League?’” says De Wet. “We had a lot of interest for the LEGO League and will be offering other after-school STEM clubs throughout the year.”
Each team consists of four roles:
Team Captain/Materials handler – Focuses on time management and preparing for the event; gathers materials needed for session and returns materials; ensures session tasks are completed.
Creative Designer/Researcher – Creates innovative design solutions to discuss with the team; investigates ideas and finds relevant research from different sources to inform the team’s decision-making.
Builder/Engineer – Assembles the LEGO mission models following the building instructions and builds the robot.
Mission Strategist/Coder – Operates the device and creates the programs in the application; analyzes the Robot Game Rulebook and leads team strategy discussions on which missions to attempt.
The Robotics Club meets most Thursdays, 3:30-4:45 pm. The goal is to begin team competition with other schools in April.
While plans are still in the works, the school intends to offer the following five-week STEM sessions in addition to the LEGO League Robotics Club.
LEGO Creations: Grades K-1, 10 students, two five-week sessions
LEGO Spike: Grades 2- 3, 10 students, two five-week sessions
Coding with Osmo: Grades K-3, 10-15 students, one five-week session
LEGO Spike and Ozobots: Grades 4-5, 20 students, one five-week session

Se reúne la Liga LEGO de Mountainview Elementary
La Liga LEGO del Club de Robótica de Mountainview Elementary ha creado dos equipos ¡y están listos para competir! Conformados por seis estudiantes de quinto grado y dos estudiantes de cuarto grado seleccionados por la consejera de primaria y administradora del club, Stacey De Wet, nuestros estudiantes con mentalidad de ingeniería están listos para poner sus diseños a prueba.
"Elegí a los estudiantes en función de su respuesta a la pregunta: '¿Por qué serías un buen candidato para la Liga LEGO?'" dice De Wet. "Teníamos mucho interés en la Liga LEGO y ofreceremos otros clubes STEM extraescolares durante todo el año."
Cada equipo consta de cuatro roles:
- Capitán del equipo/Manejador de materiales: se centra en la gestión del tiempo y la preparación para el evento; reúne los materiales necesarios para la sesión y los devuelve; garantiza que se completen las tareas de la sesión.
- Diseñador creativo/Investigador: crea soluciones de diseño innovadoras para discutir con el equipo; investiga ideas y encuentra investigaciones relevantes de diferentes fuentes para informar la toma de decisiones del equipo.
- Constructor/Ingeniero: reúne los modelos de misión LEGO siguiendo las instrucciones de construcción y construye el robot.
- Estratega de misión/Codificador: opera el dispositivo y crea los programas en la aplicación; analiza el libro de reglas del juego de robots y lidera discusiones estratégicas en equipo sobre qué misiones intentar.
El Club Robótica se reúne la mayoría de los jueves, de 3:30 a 4:45 p. m. El objetivo es comenzar la competencia por equipos con otras escuelas en abril.
Si bien los planes aún están en proceso, la escuela tiene la intención de ofrecer las siguientes sesiones STEM de cinco semanas además del Club de Robótica Liga LEGO.
